NETWORK INSTRUMENTS® RELEASES NEW GIGABIT OBSERVER SUITE SYSTEM
June 14, 2005 – London, UK - Network Instruments, the leading developer of network analysis, monitoring and management solutions, announced today a new version of the popular Gigabit Observer Suite System (GOSS), an all-in-one, portable analyser containing all the software and hardware components needed to perform full-duplex, gigabit analysis at wire-speed. The GOSS is now available with the new Gen2 Gigabit Capture Card designed exclusively by Network Instruments to maximise GOSS performance. Used extensively by field service engineers tasked with large-scale installations or travelling to remote locations for in-depth analysis and monitoring, the new GOSS also offers a more compact design for greater efficiency in travel and shipping. The portable analyser includes an integrated copy of the award-winning Observer® Suite software, a network analyser that performs real-time Expert analysis, offers complete SNMP and RMON device management as well as web reporting capabilities. The specially designed Gen2 Gigabit Capture Card guarantees real-time, full-duplex captures at wire-speed with the ability to monitor copper or optical links. To ensure data delivery, the GOSS incorporates an in-line Network Instruments nTAP™ (copper or optical) for complete passive analysis and guaranteed visibility. “Our customers depend on the Network Instruments GOSS for solving more obscure network problems,” said Dave Gray, president of Frederick Engineering, a Network Instruments premier partner. “It’s perfect for in-depth, concentrated analysis into mission-critical links. So regardless of what area you are monitoring with the GOSS, you never lose that connection with the rest of the network.” When fully loaded with all available options, the new GOSS weighs 11 kilograms —an 8 kilogram decrease from the previous model. “We first introduced the GOSS in 2003 to serve the needs of high-end network consultants whose work entails travelling to remote locations to solve more elusive gigabit problems,” said Roman Oliynyk, CEO of Network Instruments. “Now, we’ve redesigned the GOSS, reducing the weight by 8 kilograms. Because airline baggage allowances are stricter, the new GOSS was designed to eliminate any excess weight fees and to make check-in easier.” Additionally, the GOSS includes a 10/100/1000 adapter card, all required cabling and either an optical or copper nTAP integrated into the dual processor-based system.
