The 1U Probe Appliance for 10/100/1000 networks is available in five hardware configurations:
-
Single-Port Advanced Single Probe—allows for a single session to view traffic on a single 10/100/1000 network segment
-
Single-Port Advanced Multi-Probe—allows for multiple sessions by multiple users on a single 10/100/1000 network segment
-
Dual-Port Advanced Multi-Probe—allows for multiple sessions by multiple users on two 10/100/1000 network segments
-
Single-Port Advanced Expert Probe—allows for multiple sessions by multiple users, and real-time expert processing at the probe level on a single 10/100/1000 network segment
-
Dual-Port Advanced Expert Probe—allows for multiple sessions by multiple users, and real-time expert processing at the probe level on two 10/100/1000 network segments
Comprehensive Analysis
Depending on the hardware configuration, Network Instruments’ Ethernet probe appliances report to any Observer®, Expert Observer, or Observer Suite console located on the network for comprehensive, real-time analysis:
- Track over 70 VoIP-specific metrics
Observer’s VoIP Expert is designed to help manage, troubleshoot, and maintain VoIP traffic across your network. Regardless of whether you are interested in the big picture or in a specific conversation, Observer offers real-time statistics, Expert analysis, and reports for all levels of VoIP traffic.
- Speed troubleshooting with over 570 Experts
Proactively identify network issues and find immediate solutions with Observer’s real-time or post-capture Expert Analysis. Predict network impact and response time impacts. Track and solve application problems. Track errors, events, slow response, and slow connections.
- Verify VLAN setups
View each VLAN independently or in aggregate. Collect real-time VLAN statistics and determine loads by station and by VLAN.
- Collect NetFlow and sFlow® data
Monitor routed traffic on the backplane of Cisco switches and routers. Aggregate flows from various NetFlow devices on the network and send updated information to an Observer console. This allows you to collect statistics on user activity, extend Observer probe visibility, obtain long-term trending reports, and consolidate and encrypt user data collected by NetFlow technology. The 10/100/1000 Advanced Probe Appliance also monitors sFlow data, providing long-term sFlow trending reports.
- Create long-term trending reports
Collect trending data for all Ethernet, Internet, VLAN, or WLAN activity; allowing you to gain insight on total network health over time. Collect and store network, Internet, and switch data for days, weeks, months, and even years. Obtain instant snapshots with ready-made reports or design custom reports and save templates for later use. Share reports with non-Observer users.
- Reconstruct web pages, e-mails, IM, and VoIP calls
Concerned with network forensics, compliance, and security? Utilize Observer’s Stream Reconstruction capability and take captured traffic and recreate the communication in an easy-to-read format. Rebuild web pages (including images), reconstruct e-mails and instant messaging communication to gather hard evidence on network activity.
- Isolate transaction and conversation delay
Isolate if slowdowns are due to network delay or system processes with MultiHop Analysis. Track conversations through multiple segments, hops, and routes. Quickly pinpoint and eliminate transaction delay. Easily see across routers over time. MultiHop Analysis allows you to measure one-way, round-trip, as well as individual hop delay.
“So far, Observer’s capabilities has helped cut CI Travel’s phone bill by about 25 to 30 percent.’”
